The ABC model is a basic technique of CBT. According to this technique, it is your beliefs about a specific event that affect how you react to that event. This model can be used to challenge irrational thoughts and cognitive distortions of a person.

When there is an event coming, our belief system regarding that event activates. The belief system defines our behavior towards that event. ABC technique is designed to bring out faulty beliefs of a person which causes inappropriate behavior and emotions to emerge.
